Sergeant Godfrey, reported missing, is the youngest son of Mrs. F. Condon, of Young's Road. Papakura. He was horn at Dargaville and attended the Waiuku School, later being employed at Frankton bv the Railway Department. He left for Canada in January, 1941, and qualified as a wireless operator-air gunner. He later went to Britain. He has two brothers in the Expeditionary Force. THEFT FROM EMPLOYERS YOUNG MAN IMPRISONED (0.C.) WHANGAREI, Tuesday Six months' imprisonment on each of two charges of theft of money totalling £4O, the property of Town and Country Stores, Dargaville, was the sentence imposed on Victor Howard Boyd, aged 26, in Whangarei to-day by Mr. Raymond Ferner, S.M. The sentences were made concurrent. After being employed by the firm for eight weeks, Boyd left Dargaville and was arrested at Dunedin, said Detec-tive-Sergeant Fin lay. The firm's affairs at the store had been left in a muddle. Boyd, in a statement, said lie had got into a muddle owin<; to being too ambitious to build up the business. He had used the firm's money in paying the deposit on a car. On the other hand, he had bought paint for the shop and built an office, neither being charged to the firm, but paid for by himself. 111-health and the fact that he knew little about accountancy had caused him to get into a muddle. Accused said he would make good if leniency were extended to him and would pay back the money. "Unfortunately, you have already had every opportunity," the magistrate replied. GAOL FOR WOMAN Sentence of two months' imprisonment was imposed by Mr. J. Morling, S.M., yesterday, on a factory hand, Elizabeth McDonald, aged 26, who admitted a charge of being idle and disorderly. it was stated that accused had twice previously been before the Court. CHECKING SOCIAL EVILS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday Commenting that social evils, unless checked, were calculated to sap the vej-y vitality of the nation, and that after the war they would call for very serious consideration and wise statesmanship, the Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, to-day sentenced Olaf Mordey Henrici, aged 34, radio recording engineer, to five years' imprisonment with hard labour, to be followed by five years' reformative detention, on each of nine charges of indecently assaulting a boy. Sir Michael said the potential evil harvest from the seeds of contamination was incalculable.
