Competition was steady for increased entries in the beef section, ox beef selling at late rates, but cows and heifers eased slightly on last week's quotations. Large entries of sheep and lambs were keenly sought, and prices were firm, while a full yarding of calves met steady bidding, but previous high levels were not maintained. There was a demand for a short supply of fat pigs, and values improved. Alfred Buckland and Sons, Dalgety and Company, and the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report as follows : Beef.—There was a full entry of ox beef. Competition was steady, and late rates ruled. An extra heavy entry of cows and heifers sold under good competition, but the big entry accounted for an easing in value.
