TO-DAY'S SPECTACLE

length of four miles - OVER 300 VEHICLES More than four miles of road space will be occupied by the naval, army and air force detachments which arg to take part in to-day's United Nations Day parade. The parade will be reviewed as it passes the Town Hall by Vice-Admiral Kobert L. Ghormley, commanding the South Pacific area. The first column will pass the starting point outside the Y.W.C.A. Hostel in Upper Queen Street at 11.30 a.m. aiul it is expected that the parade will take well over an hour. There will be almost 4000 dismounted personnel and more than 300 vehicles. All city and suburban schools under the jurisdiction of the Auckland Education Board will close for the whole day and many secondary schools will close either for the whole or for part of the day. The Mayor, Mr. J. A. O. A Hum, has requested city firms to make a generous display of flags and to allow their employees time away from work to watch the parade. AH members of the Federation of Drapers and Allied Trades will close from 11.30 to 1.30. Streets over which the parade will pass and in the vicinity of some assembly areas will not be open to vehicular traffic from 11.10 until Queen Street is dear, and during this time tram services will follow alternative routes or will run only to the head and foot of the parade route. ■Thus,' trams from Three Kings will run otilv to-Svrii&nds, Street and those from Heme Bay only to .
