TAKANINI HORSES PREPARING FOR TE RAPA A fair number of horses are being prepared for the Waikato winter meeting at Te Rapa next Saturday. Nothing is doing better than River Plate, who is looking well, and promises to be very fit for his race in the Stewards' Handicap. Foxola has maintained her condition well, but her latest form has not been as good as earlier displays suggested. Cornish is one who may upset calculations in the President's Handicap, as he ran a surprisingly good race for one unsuited by the conditions at the Avondale meeting. Gold Money Song drew attention to his prospects at Te Rapa by running a fine race at Ellerslie, where from 22 position in the Mount Eden Handicap he just missed a place. Gold Money Song has a good record, at Te Rapa, and with track conditions to his liking can be expected to improve on recent performances. Another sprinter to show up well was Anopheles, and there is a possibility that she may eoon regain the winning list. Partial to soft tracks, Telleom is hitting out more freely in his work, and his immediate prospects are regarded more hopefully. Tellsom was a winner at the last Te Rapa meeting, and may have to be again considered. Borak got awav badly at Ellerslie in the Mount Roskill Hack Handicap, in which it was expected he would have run well By Xightmarch from Praise, Borak is to be tried as a stay at the Waikato meeting, and on breeding he should not be at a disadvantage over a distance. . Elise. who is working steadily and is looking very bright, is not a robust mare, but is 'partial to soft going. Honeywood failed at Ellerslie. but was running on strongly at the right end. Having run fourth in the Great Northern Oaks, Honeywood may be seen to better advantage over a distance, and she will have an opportunity at Te Rapa in the Horotiu Hack Handicap. . Kraal continues to prove disappointing, and it is now 16 months since her last success. She is a good track worker, but. her form this season does not inspire confidence, although she ran a fine race for third m- the Herries Memorial Handicap at Te Rapa. SMART YOUNGSTERS JUVENILE CANDIDATES A number of well-bred two-year-olds will contest the Juvenile Trotting Stakes at Oamaru to-day, the result of which should throw considerable light on the juvenile supremacy of the season. „ Tree \gain, Golden Shadow and Bonn> Find who filled the places in the Great Northern Trotting Stakes are not engaged, nor is Karnak, who won the first division of the Howick Handicap at Epsom last month. However, Tamo Shanter Gold Sheik and Captain Morant, who filled the places in the Timaru Nursery Stakes are_ included, and there is every prospect of another interesting struggle between this trio. The extra two furlongs of the Oamaru race should not trouble Tamo Shanter, Tor most of U. Scott's progeny show stamina, while his dam. Escapade, was a rare stayer. God Sheik also, lacks nothing in his respect for his dam. Mary de Oro, is. by Rey de Oro, from Highstepper, who inherited Logan Pointer and Vancleve blood. Captain Mora t is by Rey de Oro, a noted sire of stayers, from' that great mare Bonny Logan, a brilliant pacer and dam of the high-class Bayard. .
