avondale meeting WIN FOR LANDVEYOR SOME GOOD DIVIDENDS Favourites fared badly at the Avon- . tialo Jockey Club's Autumn, Meeting at EUerslie on Saturday. Landveyor and Marble Fox being the only ones to return dividends. Winners Royal Musk, Silver Note, Rara Avis and Sure Pay, ,»nd the minor place-getters, Hinkler "and Yoimß Paddon, all paid double figures. The weather was fine except f or a light .shower, but the track was eo ft after rain. The totalisator handled £67,127, against £-57,613 on the corresponding day last year, an increase of £9514. The Dominion Handicap w&a ran in two divisions, Boy a! Musk winning the first and Silver Note the second. Royal Musk was always well placed, but just held off Marble Fox, *»»o finished strongly. Black Renarde also ran on lor third and All Glory, a likely improver, -was fourth. Silver Note followed the pacemakers,, Wee Pay and Willie Pay, into the straight in the second division and then came on to win from Kairow, who secured a nice run on the rails. Bramble Song performed creditably for third and Valhaven finished fast for fourth. Silver Note carried 15lb. overweight. The fifth fancy, Mendelssohn, outstayed Lapidarian at the finish of the Hobsonville Hardies and won nicely. Flylite made a creditable showing for third end Conflagration was much closer in fourth position at the finish than at any other stage. The favourite, The (Ordinal, was never prominent, but he should do better. He pulled up a little tender. Rara Avis Scores Having his second start since going Into the care of C. V. McManemin. Kara Avis registered his best performance to date in winning the Waitakere Handicap. Kara Avis became prominent on the outside of the leading bunch at the turn and ran on well to win from Kinstep. who was one of the pacemakers. The outsider. Hinkler, finished well for third, ,and Josetto was fourth. The consistent Landveyor scored a welldeserved victory in the Autumn Handicap. After being fourth or fifth most of the way, Landveyor assumed command in the straight and won by two lengths from Foxsen. who finished fast from a long way back. Radiant Vaals, who attempted to lead over the last five fnrlongs. wan a good third and Erndale ran another good race for fourth. The favourite, Regal FOS, weakened in the last furlong after pulling hard early and Phaleron was beaten a good way from home in the going. The topweight end second fancy, De Friend, made a good impression in winning the Morningside Steeplechase practically from end to end. Hackenschmidt stayed better than formerly to gain second, and Gay Movie hut plodded on for third. Night Hawk was a poor fourth. Gaine's Choice and Stokowski fell at the second fence of the double when navg prominently with a round to go. Beaurock and Day Bonnet fell at the first fence. Broiveine Unlucky The Nursery Handicap provided a good Boith, Coronace winning narrowly from Broiveine and Transcend, who looked like winning when he took the lead at the foot of the straight Irom the pacemakers, Gratify and Yes Tor. The favourite, Gentry, was fourth after having every chance. Broiveine appeared unlucky to lose, as she was checked inside the last furlong when attempting to go op on the rails. Securing a good run through on the rails, fiare Pay registered a surprise in beating Dinky Di in the last chain of the Mount Eden Handicap. Dinky Di looked like winning after shaking off Yerulam and Orwere, who went with him to the turn, and it was only near the end that he weakened. Young Paddon finished fast from the ruck for third and Anopnelf-s also came home strongly lor fourth. The favourite, Cambria, was 'cut off at the start 1 from No. 1 and never had a chance. It was with a splendid finishing run that Foxlore won the Mount Roskill Handicap after being badly placed for the first halfmile. Prince Rewa was a good second after attempting to had all the way and Minko, one of the leaders throughout, was a good third. Empire Rose made a solid showing for fourth.
