THE LEAGUE CODE

SENIOR GRADE COMPETITION AMALGAMATION OF CLUBS A previous proposal to confine the senior grade competition to six teams and to amalgamate prominent ciubs as a wartime measure, was agreed to at last evening's meeting of the Auckland Rugby League. The chairman Mr. J. W. Wats6n, said a meeting was held last Saturday, and the following teams were admitted to the championship: Manukan, Richmond, Ponsonby, North Shore-Marist. Newton-Mount Albert, City-Otahuhu. In answer to a question, Mr. Watson said the nomination of a team from the Army Transport had been considered, but such team now proposed to play in the Rugby Union competition. The claim that a doctor should be present at Carlaw Park each Saturday was made by the City club. Several bad accidents occurred last Saturday, the letter stated, and no doctor was present. Mr. Watson said that medical officers were very busy men, and it would be difficult to secure their services at football games this season. This would apply to all sports during the winter. An assurance was given the senior clubs that every effort would be made to have a doctor at Carlaw Park whenever possible. The New Zealand Council advised that nominations for life-membership must be forwarded for consideration at the annual meeting to be held on April 30. The Junior Board of Control advised that the suspension on D. Hutchison (City), had been uplifted, under the condition that Hutchison be not permitted to play junior football A deputation stated that Hutchison was good player and was assured of a same in the senior team. A new constitution for the future control of the primary schoolboys' competitions was agieed to. Mr. Watson paid a tribute' to the zealous work of Ihe committee. Junior Control Board.—This body resolved at its weekly meeting to increase weights in all junior grades by 51b. at weighing-in, no allowances to apply, and with no restriction on normal growth of players during the season. This is a wartime measure designed to meet clubs' wishes. Age restrictions in all grades/ remain unaltered.
