LONELY ORDEAL
ELDEKLY SETTLER SCALDED WHILE ALONE ' - , DOGS DELAY RESCUE (0.C.) BLENHEIM, Wednesday A trying ordeal was experienced by Mr. William Regan, aged 75, who was admitted to the Picton Hospital on Saturday. Mr. Regan lives by himself near the head of Endeavour Inlet, his only companions being his three dogs. Apparently he had some sort of seizure last Wednesday or Thursday, and fell into the fireplace of his hut. In falling he dragged over a kettle of boiling water and suffered severe scalds. The fact that Mr. Regan did not appear outside his home was noted, but when anyone tried to go near the place the dogs became fierce. On Saturday the mail launchman and Air. C. Brown, of Blenheim, forced an entrance past the excited and now hungry dogs. Mr. Regan was still lying as he had fallen, and the scalds were in a very ' ugly condition. He was only partially conscious, and very exhausted from shock and lack of nourishment.
