OBITUARY
f MR. E. C. BINNS . Well I nown as one of the founders of the firm of Bradney and Binns, steamboat proprietors, Mr. Ernest C. Binns, a very old resident of Auckland, died at his residence, Francis Street, Grey Lynn. Mr. Binns was born in Halifax, Yorkshire, nearly 86 years ago, and came to Auckland with his parents in the sailing ship Mermaid in 1859. In 1884 Mr. Binns formed a partnership with the late Mr. J. H. Bradney, and established the firm of Bradney and Binns. In 1880 he married Miss E. Bradney, of Northcote, who predeceased him by four and a-lialf months. He is survived by six sons and one daughter, and there are 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. MR. G. V. WESTBKOOK The death has dccurred at Napier of Mr. G V. Westbrook, who was Government apiary instructor at Auckland from 1911 to 1937. Mr. Westbrook, who w as the second son of the late Rev. B. J. Westbrook, was born in Christchurch in 1876, and was a keen beekeeper throughout his life. From Auckland he *as posted to be Government apiary instructor at Hastings, and held that Sosition until his retirement last year, fe is survived by eight children, and there aro eight grandchildren.
