Lee, M.P., when commenting upon the report at the annual meeting of the Auckland Rugby League last evening. Mr. Lee aiid it was apparent that the war had made inroads, not only into the fidministration of the game, but also to the cluos, which had lost the services of many good players. \ou have a duty to perform in carrying on the game and in providing competition for all who remain," added the speaker. The excellent team work in control in the past has placed the game on a high pedestal. During the season To come the code is going to be called upon to carry a burden, which, I feel confident will be successfully done. The president paid a tribute to the fine work performed by the retiring chairman, Mr. G. Grey Campbell, whose idealism had done much to place the code in its present position. . . . Mr. Campbell, the. retiring cHairman, who was accorded an ovation, said the league had achieved definite results, and its progress was remarkable. It was a pleasure to know that during the off-season satisfactory legal arrangements had been finalised in reference to Carlaw Park and a lease of the ground was now assured for a further 21 yearj (applause). Last year was a momentous one in every respect, and it was a credit to the code that the gate receipts compared very favourably with past years. Mr. Campbell added that he had spent nine happy years as chairman, and he was now handing over the reins of office at a difficult time. However, he was assured of the assistance of a very loyal crew of officials. He thanked Messrs. I. Culpan (secretary) and J. E. Knowling (treasurer) for their loyal support. A welcome was extended to the newlyappointed chairman, Mr. J. W. Watson, who said he would try hard to follow in the footsteps of Mr. Campbell. He was confident of similar support from players and officials. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the retiring president, Mr. J. A. Lee.
