PATRIOTIC WOKK MORE KNITTERS NEEDED An appeal for more knitters was made at the monthly meeting of the women's activities sub-committee of the Auckland Metropolitan Patriotic Council yesterday, presided over by the Mayoress, Mrs. J. A. C. Allum. The house report, presented by Miss B. Carnachan, stated that a great demand for wool had arisen during the month, and the contents of seven bales had been distributed in a few days. If, however, the committee was to fulfil its allotted quota of goods, more knitters were needed. During the past month, the report continued, 1632 articles, including 564 scarves, 348 pairs of mittens and 720 balaclavas, had been sent to the National Patriotic Fund Board in Wellington. Miss Carnachan also stated that 15,420 pairs of socks had been packed in overseas parcels since the commencement of activities. The report of the reception sub-com-mittee was presented by Mrs. A. E. Moore, who said many overseas visitors had been entertained. In addition to private hospitality, a trip to Rotorua had been arranged for over 120 officers and men. Books and magazines had been provided for overseas ships. The report of the Navy Leagues women's committee, presented by 'Mrs. W. Morrah, stated that 803 articles, including 151 pullovers, 299 pairs of socks, 91 pairs of mittens, 119 balaclavas and 143 scarves, had been completed during February. WEDDING AT PUKEKOHE UTTING —MORRIS The wedding took place last Saturday afternoon at St. Andrew's Church, Pukekohe, of Miss Gwenda Marian. Morris, younger daughter of Mr. W. C. and the late Mrs. Morris, of St. Stephen's School, Bombay ? and SecondLieutenant Gordon Noel Utting, second son of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Utting, of Auckland. The ceremony was conducted by the Rt. Rev. J. W. Simkin, Bishop of Auckland, and the Rev. A. E. Prebble, of Pukekohe. The organist was the Rev. K. Small, vicar of Bombay. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a model suit of seafoam blue angora with hat to tone and navy accessories, and a shoulder spray of pink carnations and bouvardia. Attending the bride was Miss Noehne Peterson, of Hamilton, wearing a dusky pink patterned frock, navy blue edge-to-edge coat, and navy toque and accessories. Her shoulder spray was of pink roses. Second-Lieutenant E. A. Morris, N.Z.M.C., was best man. A reception was held at the home of the Rev. and Mrs. A- E. Prebble, Mrs. W. C. Morris, assisted by Mrs. W. E. Utting, receiving the guests.' Pests in a House "Rastus" (Grey Lynn) states that a previous occupier of her home kept a dog near the house with the result that the place is infested with fleas. She would be grateful for some method of destroying these pests which seem to be outside the house as well as inside. TEMPERANCE WORK The Auckland district Women's Christian Temperance Union executive met in the temperance room on Monday, Mrs. Hugh Kasper presiding. Representatives and superintendents from nine unions were present. Further arrangements were made for firstaid classes and emergency work, and a decision was reached to distribute sweets to returned soldiers in the military wards of the hospital. The school of methods held two sessions. LEAGUE OF MOTHERS In place of the usual annual conference of the Auckland Provincial League of Mothers group meetings in six districts of Auckland are to be held tomorrow. This step has been taken in view of the present emergency, it being considered unwise to congregate 600 wonjen in one place at the same time.
