TWO AMONG KILLED SERVICE IN LAST WAR MILITARY MEDAL AND BAR Acting-Sergeant Herbert H. Wood, of Robley Crescent, Glendowie, was aged 46. He was a member of what until recent reorganisation was a National Military Reserve battalion, being an ex-serviceman of the last war, when he won the Military Medal and bar for gallantry in the field with the
Imperial Forces. He rose to the rank of sergeant and was recommended for a commission. He had been at Trentham for a fortnight for a refresher course. Sergeant Wood was born in Auckland and went to England as a boy, returning 20 years ago. He was a wellknown member of the St. Heliers Bay Bowling Club. He is survived by his wife, three sons and two daughters. Corporal Richard Mark Geard \*as aged 19 and was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Geard, of 15 Taylor Street, Avondale. He was educated at the Avondale School and was a member of the Avondale Junior Rugby League Football Club. He also was at Trentham for a special course. He had been called to service by ballot and had been in the Territorial Force for about four months.
