MOTOR SPIRIT

Sir, —During the last war all large gas companies in Great Britain were requested by the Government to instal plants for the manufacture of benzol motor spirit.

In view of the serious shortage of motor spirit in New Zealand at the present time, and the uncertainty of further supplies arriving, I should like to ask if any reader will be good enough to inform ine how much benzol per ton of coal carbonised could be produced from the class of coal used by gasworks in the main centres of New Zealand.
