It has been found by the R.S.P.C.A., London, that it is almost impossible to do any rescue work during the hours of darkness or during the course of an Air Raid. It is EMPHASISED that it is AFTER an Air Raid that the major work of the rescuing will commence. This Is to inform you that the Order recently issued by the Minister of Labour relative to overtime payments and to work performed on Statutory Holidays only affects the Awards under which you are employed in the following manner:— (1) The payment for overtime worked during the normal working week will be reduced from time and a-half for the first four hours and double time thereafter to time and a-half on full pay for the first 16 hours and double time thereafter. (2) It does not, however, authorise employers in our Industry to work staff on their half-day or their full-day weekly holidays, excepting under the conditions already provided by the Award. NOTE. —The regulation issued by the Minister is intended to implement the country's war effort and to increase the production of essential goods. It is not designed to reduce the wages of the workers employed in the catering industry, providing accommodation and refreshments for holiday-makers and others who desire to have a good time during the festive season.
