A BRIEF STRIKE

BUS COMPANY DRIVERS SEQUEL TO DISMISSALS Following the dismissal of three drivers employed by the Passenger Transport Company, Limited, the company's drivers ceased work at nine o'clock yesterday morning. Later, on the advice of the conciliation commissioner, Mr. C. L. Hunter, they resumed, and a full service was available from about three o'clock in the afternoon onward. A disputes committee discussed the case from early in the afternoon until about 6.30 o'clock last night, when a majority decided that the three men should be reinstated, as insufficient evidence had been brought to warrant their dismissal. They will resume work this morning. Mr. Hunter, who returned from Wellington only yesterday morning, was engaged at the company's offices for the greater part of the day. He said that he had a talk with the men about mid-day, and they took his advice to resume work, pending a settlement. On behalf of the company, Mr. N. B. Spencer said schedules had been maintained as far as possible, with inspectors and others taking the place of drivers during the brief strike. Comparatively few trips had been missed.
