; NEXT YEAR'S CAMPAIGN THE METROPOLITAN AREA An ,• almost complete statement of accounts relating to the Fighting Forces Fund was forwarded to the .Metropolitan Patriotic Executive last night by the honorary treasurer, Mr. L. W, Swan, who stated that the final payment of between £2OO and £3OO from one group had yet to be received. The statement showed that £IIB,OOO had been received from groups and paid to the Provincial Patriotic Council, which had received a further £19,255 direct. The amount received direct by the metropolitan executive had been £26,748, and £625 remained in hand. Expenditure to date totalled £SOO and total receipts stood at £165,129. A notification was received from the provincial council that a. new provincial campaign would be launched on November 1, with the object of raising £500,000 -within 14 months. The net sum required was £440,788, of which the metropolitan area was asked to raise £207,765. The chairman, Mr. J. A. O. Allum, remarked that, although November 1 had been named as the starting date, the appeal could not very well begin in earnest;until early in February. On his motion a committee of 12 was appointed, with power to elect its own chairman and to discuss preliminary arrangements. It was agreed that the executive should go into recess until the first week in February, the chairman to be empowered to deal with urgent matters in the interim after consultation with the chairmen of the sub-committees concerned.
