MIDDLE-OF-ROAD DRIVING

(0.C.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday The Transport Department has just completed some findings based upon a study of 795 accidents occuning 0,1 side of built-up areas. The departmen has found that nearly a t!iird or t teaS accidents resulted from failure to keep to the left, including corner cutting, swinging out on bends, and mic eo the-road driving. This fault was worsin the Auckland Province. Excessive speed caused one acciden in every five. The Wellington district was the worst for speeding. Inatten tive driving contributed to one acciden in every six. Failure to yield the rig of way was a more frequent cause o accidents in cities and boroughs, than on the open road, and was Canterbury area. Proved caused 3 per cent of the acciden .
