NON-PARTY GOVERNMENT

Sir,—"N.Z. First" hits the nail on the head when he says it's about time we did something to clean up the mess created by intense party warfare. I support him when he says it can be done—it only wants men and women to come together pledged to find the real truth in everything no matter how embarrassing or sordid that truth may be.. Personally, 1 believe non-party government will become a reality when the great majority of people begin-to look upon politics as the science of living together, instead of a means of acquiring sectional advancement Perhaps the Swiss system came into being and works well because the people had been trained in the co-opera tive system of farming, industry, trading and living. The early days of this country had those characteristics, but we have deteriorated into a oneeyed parochial, intolerant community, and so we have created the type of government we deserve. The vicious grips of party are being slowly, but surely, loosened because as individuals we are changing our onelook. The war is slowly placing our accepted ideas of property, service wages and life itself on a different but, I think, higher plane, and Ave are beginning to measure our thoughts and action not by old standards of sectional self-interest, but by the true standard of the common good, i.e., the Christian standard. The revolt against party politics is evidence of this change of outlook.

I am endeavouring to bring men and women together to tackle the problems of government raised by your correspondents in what 1 have chosen to call the Christian Political Union. I am convinced we can overcome sectional strife, party strife and industrial strife, if men and women will unite to put the Christian idea! into practice. The Church will then become again the power-house of true and honest action and the rule by party will cease to exist. B. H. Kingston.
