DESERT OFFENSIVE RUSSIAN FIGHTING SPIRIT The opening of the big offensive by the Allied forces in the Western Desert is a leading feature of The Wkekly News this week. Many new pictures show -th© troops in position and the an preparations for the attack, and a special article by a military correspondent describes the fighting and discusses the outlook. . , A double page of bright pictures and a special article are devoted to the new naval training station Tamaki, better known as Motuiln Island. Young naval recruits are shown being thoroughly prepared to take their places in the Navy's fighting ships. Striking pictures of the Russians at war are included in two pages in the illustrated section this week. They show determined soldiery at the front and well organised citizens in the back areas, all putting forth their maximum effort to hold the invader, to guard their farms, to gather scrap metal for munitions and generally to aid the Government. . There is also a selection interesting topical articles dealing with the Pacific situation, the visit of Mr. Duff Cooper, Russia's fighting spirit and the political background. The usual sections devoted to news, social activities, farming, housekeeping and sports are maintained at their customary high level.
