NORTHCOTE INTERESTS

In reply to a letter from the Auckland Suburban Local Bodies' Association requesting views on the question of water supply, the Northcote Borough Council decided last night to write stating that in its opinion a metropolitan board should be formed to control all public utility services, and that the council approved the principle of a major water supply scheme from the upper Waikato River. The Mayor, Mr. M C. Fowler, stated that he had attended a conference between the Harbour Board and the Minister of Marine, the Hon, R. Sompie, in connection with the vehicular ferry service to Northcote. The council decided that copies of a petition taken up recently should he sent to the Harbour Board, with a request that the service be reinstated in the interests of the motoring public pending the construction of up-to-date facilities for traffic. The original petition will be .presented to the ferry company.
