OBITUARY
MRS. CECIL A. WHITNEY The death of Mrs. Mary Ellen Whitnev, wife of Mr. Cecil A. Whitney, occurred at her residence, Victoria Avenue, Remuora, yesterday She was a daughter of the late Mr. J. L. Wilson, and was born in Auckland in 1868. Mrs. Whitney was well known for her keen interest in philanthropic ; causes about the city, to many of which she .gave active assistance. She took a prominent
part in the work of the Y.W.C.A., and her charitable gifts included a property at Campbell's Bay, which she presented in 1933 to the Auckland City Mission lor use as a convalescent home. At present it is being used by soldiers wives who are recovering from illness. Mrs. Whitney is survived by her husband, two sons, Mr. J. C. Whitney and Mr. Chisholm Whitney, and a daughter, Mrs Dove, wife of Lieutenant-Colonel W. W. Dove, M.C., N.Z.S.C.
