Bees Swarm In Street A swarm of bees which settled on the back of a stationary lorry in Victoria Street, Hamilton; at noon yesterday, caused a good deal of interest and concern among passers-by. The swarm was eventually put in a box and taken away. Safety at Corners In view of the numerous accidents at intersections of streets, the action of two Oneluuiga ratepayers in donating corners of their property to the Borough Council was favourably commented upon by the council last evening. The donors were Mr. C. C. Sandford and Mrs. R. L. Sandford and the hope was expressed that their good example might well be followed by owners of other cornex properties. Spirituality ctf Maoris A tribute to the deep spirituality of some of the older Maoris who attended services in his recent tour of North Auckland was paid by the Bishop of Auckland, the lit. Rev. W. J. Sim kin, at All Saints' Church, Ponsonby, last night. Ho mentioned that, while it might be that these older people did not have a background of knowledge, there could be no doubt of the reality of their religion and what it meant to them. He also said that almost superhuman tasks were being undertaken by European arid Maori churchmen in North Auckland. Some relief for them in their vast parishes was an urgent problem.

College Used As Hospital A statement that the temporary accommodation of Training College students at Auckland University College while their own building was being used as an auxiliary hospital had proved very unsatisfactory was contained in a letter from the Auckland Education Board received at a meeting of the Auckland Hospital Board last night. The Education Board asked that, in the circumstances, the college buildings be vacated at the end of January so that they would bo available for reoccupation by the students when they resumed their studies at the beginning of February. The Hospital Board decided to reply that the buildings would be vacated by March 1 in terms of the undertaking originally given.

' Interest in War Pictures Considerable interest was taken by the public of Auckland in the pictures of air raid damage in London which were on display in the Art Gallery. This collection of 64 enlarged photographs was sent by the Press Club, London, to the Newspaper Proprietors' Association of New Zealand, which ar- 1 ranged for their display throughout the Dominion. During the 17 days the pictures were on view in Auckland they , were .seen by 14,048 people and donations to the Lord Mayor of London's Air Raid Relief Fund totalled £338 13s 9d. The donations were received by the W omen's War Service Auxiliary, which had members in attendance at each session. The pictures had already been , exhibited for a week in Wellington, where ,£IBB was contributed, and they will be sent to Christchurch for two f weeks and then to Dunedin. Offending Oar Lights A check on the adjustment of motor- I car lights has been made by members 1 of the city traffic staft' during the past s few nights and so far they have advised the owners of over 100 cars that the angle of the beam of the one driv- I ing light permitted in the restricted ( area is not in keeping with the requirements of the reduced lighting regula- t tions. The angle of the beam should s. be downward at the rate of Sin. in t 10ft. on the centre of tho beam. The f ' city traffic superintendent, Mr. C. a Bland, said yesterday that some lights inspected were only slightly above the required angle, but others showed little deflection, and unless there was early compliance with the regulations sterner measures would have to be taken. Mr. ° Bland said fog lamps set low in the front of ears were also a source .of com- J plaint as deflection rendered them use- t less for driving. The result was that t many owners used them with a level p beam.
