IMPORT RESTRICTIONS
Sir,—l have just returned from a five months' trip to Australia, visiting Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, and also smaller towns. Everywhere there is an abundant supply of almost every commodity. Many lines, extremely scarce in .New Zealand during the past J8 months, are on sale in great variety in all tlio retail stores. Ladies' silk hose from Js 4id per pair to 9s Ud per pair are for sale literally in hundreds of thousands. There have been very few restrictions regarding imports and only now alter two yeans of war are restrictions being applied more severely. There are no blackouts, except a trial one or two for half an hour or an hour. Regarding the scarcity and high price of oranges, all i need say is, that three weeks ago I purchased two cases of first-grade oranges in Adelaide direct from the grower at (is per ease. Since then oranges in Australia have slightly increased in price and are not quite so plentiful Ohskryku.
