VALUEOFWORK DURING WAR [by tki.egrai'H—rnr.ss association] WELLINGTON, Sunday Tt was decided at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Council of the Royal l.ifeSaving Society that the Minister of Manpower he approached and overtures made to him to have the services of the Royal LifeSaving Society recognised as an adjunct to the Dominion's war effort, in so far as the teaching of artificial respiration is concerned. Dr. T. H. Pet-tit (Auckland), stressing the importance of the society's work in wartime. said that by far the greater proportion of deaths had occurred during the war in London through suffocation, and a relatively small proportion through injuries. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows:—Vice-patrons, Dr. T. 11. Pettit iAuckland), Messrs. N. A. Ingram (Wellington), G. E. Rillson (Canterbury), If. H. Henderson (Otago); president, Mr. G. D. Griffiths (Christchurch); vice-president, Mr. L V. J. Clarkson (Christchurch); secretary. Mr. J. Breward (Christchurch); treasurer and award secretary, Mr. F. J. Glackin (Christchurch); auditor. Mr. P. R. smith (Christchurch): solicitors, Messrs. Johnston, White and Champion '(Christchurch); delegate to New Zealand Surf Life-Saving Association. Mr. ,1. L. Dighton (Wellington); delegates to national committee of swimming and lifesaving,' Messrs. Dighton, Ingram.
