FASHIONS AT EPSOM
SUITS AND ENSEMBLES Threatening weather early in the morning prompted trotting enthusiasts to be well prepared for any emergency at Alexandra Park on Saturday, when the first day of the Auckland Trotting Club's Spring Meeting was held. The stands and lawns were thronged with people, among whom were many out-of-town visitors. The dressing was eminently suitable for changeable weather. Attractive ensembles in gay checked designs, frocks with "hoxv" swagger coats to match, or well-tailored suits of fine worsted worn with golden or silver fox furs, were the most popular choice. Colourful accessories, such as shoulder posies of fresh flowers or quaint barbaric necklaces, added interest to many of the suits. The hats were small and many were of felt, but here and there was seen one of the new spring straw sailor type of hats. A becoming fashion sponsored by some of the younger people was a scarf of material to tone with the frock twisted round the head like a crownless turban.
