MEMORIAL PLAQUE
LATE AVA SYMONS Among the exhibits to be seen at the annual show of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts in Wellington is a plaster cast of a handsome bronze which is to adorn the memorial stone of the late Miss Ava Symons (Mrs. W. .1. Prou.se) in the Wark worth Cemetery, Auckland. The bronze is a beautilullymodelled relief of the late Miss Symons in the attitude of playing her violin. A speaking likeness lias been secured by tlie sculptor, Mr. Alexander I'. Eraser, Wellington. The bronze on completion will measure L'.'iin. by 17in. The circular head and shoulders section has been cast in bronze apart from the rest, as it is to form the memorial medallion, to 1)0 donated each year to the winner of the Ava Symons memorial competition for violin-playing at the annual festival of the Wellington Competitions Society. It was won lor the first time this year by Master Zane Jjartlett, Palmorston Xorth, who won not only the first award in his age class (12 to 16 years) but also the prize in the open class. _ These medallions will have oyelets in the back, so that the bronze may be hung to a wall of a room or a cabinet. When the rest of the bronze plaque is completed it will be taken to Auckland, and there affixed to the granite base on the specially-designed memorial stone.
