NEW TRAFFIC ISLANDS

BEACH ROAD JUNCTIONS The formation of traffic islands, with lighted bollards, at the junctions of Ansae Avenue and Britoniart Place with Beach .Road, at a total cost of il !•'{•">, was authorised by the City Council last night. Reports by the superintendent of traffic, Mr. C. Bland, and the city engineer, Mr. J. Tyler, proposed that in Anzae Avenue an island should be placed on the eastern side, where there was a space of 90ft. between the tram rails and kerb at the Beach Road corner. At the Britoniart Place junction an island was ;tlso proposed. It was stated that both islands would be necessary eventually when the intended system of traffic signals was introduced.
