Prize-giving dates for the end of this year for the five schools under the control of the Auckland Grammar School board of governors were fixed at yesterday's meeting of the hoard. Tho ceremonies will all take place within a period of two days, and have been arranged so that times will not clash. Auckland Grammar and Mount Albert Grammar will hold their ceremonies on December 11, during the day. The remaining three schools, Epsom Girls', Auckland Girls', and Takapuna, are to have their prize-givings on tho following day.

Heavy Excursion Traffic Large numbers of holiday-makers will leave Auckland by train at I lie Labour Day long week-end. A record number of passengers booked all the available accommodation on the excursion train to Waitomo, while those trains to National Park, with 160 passengers, and to Ilotorua also were fully booked yesterday. The two expresses to Wellington to-morrow were fully taken, and accommodation on the 7.35 relief express was almost as strained. Very heavy bookings have also been received for the special excursions to Whangarei and To Aroha.

Carrageen from Stewart Island Carrageen, a white seaweed used for the making of several kinds of foods and medicines, is now being obtained from Stewart Island. The weed was previously imported from Ireland and France, but because of the war it is now being obtained from Stewart Island. Supplies of the weed are being sent to Auckland, where it is used by a brewery firm for finings, and Dtmedin. One supplier sent 1501b. to Auckland in April and 12001b. in September, and another supplier sent several hundredweight to Dunedin during that month. One supplier at Stewart Island is the agent for an Auckland firm, which uses the best grade of carrageen, and it intends exporting some to America. The price paid to those in the industry at the island is Is 9d per lb.
