Sir, —Assuming that the statistics mentioned by "Dutchman" in Tuesday's Herald are correct, although no proof is given, he would certainly be a bold man who _ expected reasoning people to be convinced that the diflerence in the criminal records of two countries was due to the fact that one did not hang its murderers. Here in New Zealand we have just had an unexampled series of violent deaths immediately following the abolishment of capital punishment. What, in Dutchman's opinion, docs this prove? W.M.
