THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE AUSTRALIAN LEADERS WEAKEN The recent setback to Australian shares was reflected in trading on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, in the first business for nearly six weeks A.C.I, registered a fall of 4s 6d on sale at 47s Gd, while Colonial Sugars were marked down 20s on the last business early in September. Levels for Broken Hill Proprietary were weaker, offers breaking to .'s9s 9'd. New Zealand stocks remained strong. Bank of New Zealands hardened on sale and there was a substantial strengthening of Bycrofts on the levels, but generally the market tone was quiet.

UNITED BUILDING PROFIT

Net, earnings of the United Permanent Buildinir and Investment Society of Auckland were £OSOO for the year ended September HO, against £0270. A sum of £IOOO is again to be added to reserve, increasing it to £20,500, and the directors propose to maintain tho dividend at .V/ 2 per cent (filial 3 per cent). The year's dividend requirements aro £5414, leaving £IOO7 to be carried forward, against .L'SSO brought in. Interest receipts at £OO-15 compare with £SOOO last year and £SO2.> in 10U9.

SALES TAX REVENUE Sales tax receipts for August totalled 6007,101, compared with £550,507 in July, an increase of £20,084. Of the August total £OOO.O-10 was for ordinary revenue purposes, and this figure compares with receipts of £•_>* M>*7 in August, It MO. The amount of sales tax collected for ordinary revenue purposes during the first eight months of 1011 was .€2,2*7,.100. compared with C 2.031.500 in a similar period of 1010, a decrease of 1 .!> per cent.
