BLACKFISH ASHORE

SCHOOLS OF 27 AND 17 INSIDE WHANGAREI HEADS (0 c.) WHANGAREI, Tuesday Two schools of blackfish have come ashore on beaches just inside the ngarei Heads. One school of 27 is ashore in McLeod's Bay and the other of 17 is aground in Parua Bay. For some days large numbers of blackfish have been seen near the heads, one school being estimated to contain over 75, the majority about 20ft. long. Residents in the area are concerned at the stranding of the blackfish, as they constitute a menace to health, especially as they will be decaying on the beaches during the summer months. Several years ago 90 blackfish came ashore at Ocean Beach, near the Whangarei Heads, while smaller numbers have come ashore during the intervening years, the last school going aground near Marsden Point nearly two years ago.
