ATHLETIC INTERESTS

THE AUCKLAND CENTRE WARTIME PROVINCIAL MEETING The necessity for the full co-operation and support of all clubs for the forthcoming: year was stressed by the president, Mr. H. L. Towers, at the annual meeting of the Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association on Saturday night* Strong support for women and juniors was needed, for upon them would fall much of the work in keeping the clubs alive. It was iri the interests of the nation that competition be provided, said Mr. Towers. A tribute was paid to the work of Mr. E. W. Friedlander, who had been treasurer of the centre for the past six years, and secretary for the last year and a-half.

" It was decided to hold senior wartime provincial championships and to institute an intermediate grade to include athletes under 21 years of age. A decision fo forward a remit to the New Zealand Council requesting that cash paid into the overseas fund from athletes' registration fees for the 1!M1-1S)12 season be used for the assistance of centres was passed. An application was made by the Waikato Subcentre for the next women's arid junior provincial championships to be held somewhere in the AVaikato.

Mount Albert.—The Mount Albert Amateur Athletic Club opened the season with a meeting at Cribble-Hirst Park on Saturday, lne track was in stood order, but a strong cross wind was blowing. SCHOOL RELAY EVENTS

AUCKLAND GRAMMAR'S WINS The inter-secondary schools' relay championships were conducted under the control of the Auckland Secondary Schools' Amateur Athletic Association at the Auckland Grammar School on Saturday. Of the 20 event 3 decided, the majority were on the track, over distances ranging from sprints to a mile, with a few field events. A strong, cold wind hampered the athletes. The finishes were keenly contested, and the usual enthusiasm prevailed, both among the competitors and their supporters, who were in considerable number. The standard of ability and fitness was high and very promising. The baton changing, however, was only fair. Auckland Grammar School proved victorious in all sections, gaining in the seniur section 31 points, in the intermediate section 33 points, and jii the junior section 27 points. The runner-up in the senior section was King's College, and Mount Albert Grammar School, equal with 10 points. Then followed Sacred Heart College. 20! i; Takapuna Grammar School, 10; Seddon Memorial Technical College, l tVi. Mount Albert Grammar and King's College, only one point apart, were second and third respectively in the intermediate section, and among the juniors Sacred Heart and King's College- finished second and third.
