MISSING AIRMAN AUCKLAND SERGEANT TWO BROTHERS IN AIR FORCE The parents of Sergeant-Gunner Hugh McLennan Maedonald. Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Maedonald, of 31 Hackett Street, Ponsonby. have received word that he was reported missing on air operations on September 28. - Be was born in Fairlie, South Canterbury, in 1918, and became a pupil of the Curran Street School and of the Seddon Memorial Technical College. Sergeant Maedonald joined the Air Force here in July of last year, and was among the earliest to he trained under the Empire scheme in Canada. He gained his wings there, and after being appointed a radio gunner he was

sent to England last May. His two brothers are also serving in the Air Force, his twin brother lan being a leading-aircraftman at Ohakea. while Allan is stationed at Hobsonville. He was a prominent member of the West End Rowing Club and competed in several regattas. He also played League football with the Ponsonby club. PRISONERS IN GERMANY ADVICES RECEIVED Official advice has been received by Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Hastings Scott, of 11.'3 Blockhouse Ray Road, Avondale. that their fourth sou. Gunner Clarence Douglas Scott, who was previously reported mi>sii)g. a prisoner of war in Germany. Gunner Scott, who left New Zealand witii the Second Echelon, was safely evacuated from Greece, but was reported missing after the fighting in Crete. Advice that Private Donald Scott Chalmers, of Auckland. who was taken prisoner in Greece, is at Stalag IS prison camp in Germany has been received by relatives in Auckland. Private Chalmers stated that be was quite comfortable. A member of an ambulance unit. Private Chalmers was among volunteers who remained behind with wounded men who were unable to be moved during the retreat in Greece. His commanding officer in a letter stated that officers and men who knew him thought highly of him, and lie would be greatly missed from the unit. Advice that Sapner John L. Cullen, of Auckland, and Waihi. is a prisoner of war in Germany has been received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. Cullen, of Waihi. A private cablegram from Geneva states be is well and 1111wounded. A letter has also been received from him staling that the Red Cross Society was supplying comforts to prisoners. Prior to enlisting, Sapper Cullen was employed in the Auckland weights and measures office of the Labour Department. A letter advising that he is now a prisoner of war in Germany has been xeceived from Private Alan Robert Noall by his mother. Mrs. A. I\. Noall, of .'I Chandler Avenue, Epsom. Private Noall. who was captured on April "27 at Corinth. Greece, while tending a party of wounded, states that after three months' inactivity he is now working in a hospital. Food is plentiinl but there is a shortage of warm clothing. Prior to receiving the letter Mrs. Noall was informed that her son was a prisoner of war by a radio listener in New South Wales, who heard him broadcasting a message from Germany.
