GOODS FROM AMERICA

lease-lend scheme DEFINITION OF "PROFIT" (S.R.) "WELLINGTON, Wednesday A more explicit definition of the term "profit'' as applied to the distribution in New Zealand of supplies from the United States under the Lease-Lend Act was given in an inter- \ iew to-day by the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W . Nash. He bad said previously that the Government was required to give an assurance that goods supplied in this way would be distributed to users without profit. '"The question of profit means that there is to be no accepted profit in the ordinary sense of the term, a sum over and above the cost of the commodity, plus the servicing charge." Mr. Nash said to-day. "it is essential, however, that there should be paid a servicing charge to reimburse the costs and overhead of the firms carrying out the distribution of the goods."
