HEADLIGHTS NOT DIPPED
FIRST PROSECUTIONS WARNING BY MAGISTRATE The first Auckland prosecutions under the new headlight restriction regulations were brought by the traffic department of the Auckland City Council against five motorists before .Mr. I'". 11. Lovien, S.M., yesterday. None of those charged appeared to defend counts of failing to dip their car lights as the blackout conditions demanded. The superintendent of traffic, Mr. C. Bland, prosecuted H. L. M. Buisson. If. W. Bennett. A. A. McConnell, D. K. Bellingham and J. Walker for the breach, and fines ranging from 10s to 30s, with costs, were imposed. "From the information given mp it appears that this offence is fairly common," said the magistrate. ".Motorists should take these prosecutions as a warning that the penalties may be increased if the number does not lessen. Substantially heavier fines will be inflicted in the future, particularly when the offence occurs on roads open to the sea."
