PATRIOTIC WORK
AUCKLAND ACTIVITIES Suggestions that the Auckland .Metropolitan Patriotic Committee should take steps to acquaint the community with the extensive activities of patriotic organisations in the Auckland district were discussed at a committee meeting last night, when comprehensive reports were received from Yorkshire House and the Navy Patriotic Sub-committee. In commenting on the reports, which covered an immense amount of detail work in providing comforts and parcels for men in the fighting services, Mr. J. Gniniven said few people realised what was being done. He said the reports represented a wonderful amount of work, but in the absence of publicity the people were apt to think that very little was being done. Some effort should be made to tell the public. The chairman. Mr. J. A. C. Atlum. said there were thousands of men and women who deserved thanks for their patriotic work. The women were workin!' quietly but efficiently under the Yorkshire House organisation and through the various Lady Galwav Guilds, while others were giving entertainment at camps. He assured the committee that he would take whatever steps were possible to make known something of this work.
