INTENSE EARTHQUAKE
QUETTA HOUSES SHAKEN LONDON, Sept. 30 A report from Quctta states that an earthquake shock of great intensity rocked Quetta yesterday morning. It lasted 35 seconds. A further but less intense shock occurred a minute later, and a third 20 minutes later. Houses were badly shaken and people rushed in panic into the streets. There are no details of casualties. At th* 3 end of May, 103.5, a severe earthquake shook Northern India and struck with especial violence at Quetta, the capital ol British Baluchistan. The whole city was laid in ruins, scarcely a building being left standing. It was first estimated that the casualties were 20,000. All communications with the city were disrupted and recurrent tremors hindered the rescue work. The damage to property was reckoned at over £2,500,000, and a later estimate gave the death roll at over 56,000. Up till 1932 Quetta had had no earthquake.
