DAMAGE BY FIRE

GROCERY STORE OUTBREAK BENZINE FUMES IGNITED A storeroom at the back of the premises of the Blue and White Stores, Limited. 891 Rcmuera Road, was extensively damaged by a fire which broke out shortly after 4.30 yesterday afternoon. The outbreak was caused by a lighted match igniting fumes from a bottle of benzine, which exploded. No one was injured. The call was answered by machines from the Remuera and Parnell brigades, and. although the flames spread rapidly, the firemen confined them to the storeroom. A quantity of groceries was destroyed. The building and stock are insured with the United Insurance Company, but details of the amounts were not available last night.

LOSSES IN BLENHEIM THREE SHOPS INVOLVED [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION?I BLENHEIM, Tuesday Three small shops in Market Street South wore involved in an outbreak of fire last night. Major damage was suffered by the premises of Mr. W. G. Burton, fruiterer and confectioner, the back of the shop being burned out. while the entire stock ivas ruined by smoke and water. The adjoining shops o.i either side occupied by Mr. C. H. ■ fames, draper, and Mr. G. Bartlett. hairdresser, were affected to a minor extent, the principal damage being to Mr. .James' stock, which suffered badly from -moke. Mr. Bartlett's premises escaped with slight damage in the storeroom, where matches were ignited by the heat. The shops are included in a block of four owned by Mr. Sidney Adams and insured for Cl-'SOO. Mr. Burton's stock was insured lor £3OO, and Mr. James' for i'-On.
