TWO YEARS FOR R, STANTON "NEGLECT TO PROTECT HORSE" MELBOURNE, August 16 The Victoria Racing Club has disqualified for two years R. C. Stanton, trainer of Cheery Jack, for neglect to protect that horse, who was • doped prior to the Grand National Steeplechase at FJemington on July .15. The committee told Stanton they wore convinced he had failed to care for the horse and protect it from being tampered with. Stanton is dumbfounded at the decision and says he never suspected the presence of dopers Cheery Jack, Australia's best hurdler and steeplechaser, was a warm favourite for the Grand National Steeplechase at Flemington on July 15 Twenty-four minutes before the race the horse was found to be in a bad way in his stall and practically blind. A veterinary examination revealed that the horse had been doped and he was withdrawn from the race. The committee of the V.R.C. began an inquiry and the police also made investigations. A suspect was arrested and later charged with vagrancy, but the case was dismissed without calling upon the defence.
