LOCAL MARKETING COMPANY MAKES PROTEST APOLOGY BY DEPARTMENT Complaints that the Interna] Marketing Department had used the East Taniaki Cooperative Dairy Company's wrapping labels to wrap other brands of butter for loeal marketing purposes were ventilated at the company's annual meeting yesterday. Mr. D. 11. Kenton (Clovedon) oriticised tlte procedure and contended that the company should have made a claim against the department. The company's butter was made under a vacuum process and packed in ft protected wrapper. "Had a private person sold other butter under the label of a protected brand he would have been prosecuted," lie added. One of the directors, Mr. J. H. Ferguson, said the department had admilted that there had been an oversale of butter in the company's wrappers and that a mistake had been made. It had given an assurance to the company directors that this would not happen again. ''We could not find out where this extra butter was made and as the department and the Government controlled all butter the directors could not do otherwise than accept the apology," Mr. Ferguson added. The department had asked if the company would agree to its butter being supplied to camps under other wrappers. The directors had agreed on condition that butter went into camps without any public recognition of brands._ The chairman, Mr. T. I).
