LOSSES OF CLOTHING
CHARGES TO SOLDIERS (S.R.) WELLINGTON, Thursday "The question of making a uniform rate has received consideration, but the extent to which replacements have been necessary in the Territorial Force j clearly indicates that clothing and! boots are lost through neglect, and it ; is feared that, any reduction in thej rates would tend to increase the loss." j said the Minister of Defence, the Hon. !•'. Jones, in a written reply in the! House of Representatives to-day to a | question asked by .Mr. J. A. Lee j (Democratic Labour-—Grey Lynn) on j behalf of the Hon. \Y. E. Barnard j (Democratic Labour—Napier). The question related to apparent i anomalies concerning the replacement i of clothing. Mr. Jones said that clothing which! had become unserviceable through lair I wear and tear was replaced without ! charge. This applied to soldiers of the • Territorial Force and soldiers in niobi!- j isatioti camps. Charges for loss of equipment were the same for territorials and men in mobilisation camps. ; The rates charged for deficiencies of i clothing and boots were on a higher' scale for territorials than for soldiers in mobilisation camps.
