The new petrol cuts, which will restrict private motorists to 1000 miles a year, instead of 2000 miles, take effect to-day. Licences for commercial vehicles and farm and industrial machinery will be reduced by 10 por cent. For July, motorists with cars up to 10 horse-power will receive only two gallons of petrol, compared with five gallons. Cars from 14 to 20 horsepower will bo cut from eight gallons to four gallons. , There will be no petrol for "drive yourself" cars and private pleasure boats. . ni From August 1 the private and business licence • group will suffer a reduction of half the ration allowance tor private use shown on their licences, plus a reduction of one-sixth of thoir reassessed business ration. Traders in the country districts generally favoured 0 p.m. closing, although a substantial number favoured G. 30 to 7 p.m. On late shopping nights, 8.30 or 0 p.m. was favoured, with controlled hours on Sundays and holidays. In the rqptropolitan area, petrol station owners favoured 6.30 p.m. on week nights.
