LADIES' COMPETITIONS
PROVINCIAL CUP FINAL A drawn match resulted when Auckland A and Auckland B contested the Provincial Cup final, the event bringing to a close the annual Country Week tourney. The Country Cup. which was contested b.v section runnersiip, was won by Hauraki Plains, when it defeated Northern Wairoa by 1 goals. Auckland A showed superiority in its attack, the wingforwards, Misses 1,. McManus and IT. Ruddcll, making speedy runs to force openings. At centre. Miss M. Owen drew the defence repeatedly with nice stickvvork and hall control, to make openings for the supporting forwards. A weak half-line saw the defence fall on the fullbacks, Miss M. White and Mrs. L. Askew, although Miss T. Bond intercepted well in the centre-half position. An outstanding defensive irame was played by Miss White, whose anticipation and strong clearances averted dangerous moves. Rallying in the second spell, the B tor:in overcame the lead of two goals b.v a relentless attack, Miss B. Conquest being quick to take advantage of an open goal. Miss K. Hi 1 key, whose speed find thrust as !i forward have earned her a place in many representative teams, was unfortunately starved on the wing, little play going her way. Lark of a spearhead lost the 1? team opportunities when it had a territorial advantage. A solid defence by Miss M. Coldhnm at centre-half, and Miss D. Gilbert-Smith, right fullback, kept the A's from penetrating in the second spell. An extra 15 minutes was allowed, but no further score resulted, the Auckland A team, as holder of the trophy, being declared the winner. , ... A one-sided match was witnessed between Hauraki Plains and Northern Wairoa, the former's combination and positional play outclassing the lighter Wairoa team. For Plains. Miss F Dunning, at centre-forward, displayed excellent stickwork. and easily outpaced the defence to score three goals. Northern Wairoa made valiant attempts to penetrate the defence but long forward passes were intercepted by Miss 1,. Foote. right fullback, and Mrs centre-half. Results were-—Auckland A. 2 (Misses L. McManus, N. Hunt), drew with Auckland B. 2 (Miss B Connuest 1 ; Hauraki Plains, t (Misses F.. Dunnir.e, F. James), beat Northern Wairoa, 0.
