Chinese Offer to Pick Maize A statement that a number of his countrymen in Auckland were prepared to offer their services to farmers in Whakatane was made yesterday by a Chinese gardener, who had read the report in the H'f.rat.d that there was an acute shortage of maize-pickers in the district. The party, which was willing to go to Whakatane only if a reasonable amount of work was offering, would include men with previous experience of maize-harvesting.

Schoolboys in Ballot As a result of 18-vear-old youths now being eligible for military service, the names of a number of boys attending secondary schools were included among the 11,111 single reservists called up jin the territorial ballot, which was published in an extraordinary Gazette yesterday. Storage of Wheat For the duration of the war and six months afterward the Auckland Harbour Hoard will give space in the upper floors of two transit sheds for the storage of wheat.
