THE MAORI BATTALION
Sir.--I*rom all sides come laurels for the Maori Battalion—over the air, in the press and from letters sent by their pakeha brothers lighting alongside them.
There must be many who read the article in Thursday's Hi:it.\i,i> entitled
"M aori Heroism" whose hearts glowed with pride until the finishing paragraph was reached. It must have been galling indeed for the kith and kin of those courageous "old boys" of To Auto and St. Stephen's College to read: "No, pai korrv, we no shoot. The bayonet plurry good medicine." Frankly, such phraseology is incredible. With due respect to our war correspondent, tho humour behind this jargon is appreciated by all, but, believe me, the boys of the Maori Battalion speak the King's English. I?. Maika.
