GOODS FROM SYDNEY

PROMPT SHIPMENT URGED USE OF AMERICAN SHIPS The need for prompt transhipment of cargo for New Zealand at Sydney is emphasised by the president of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, Mr. L. A. Eadv, in a cablegram sent to the Minister of Marine, the Hon. R. Semple, who is visiting Australia. The cablegram follows receipt by the chamber of a letter from the Minister concerning the carriage of cargo between British ports by Matson lane vessels. The cablegram says that, while appreciating points raised by the Minister in connection with using British shipping as far as possible, the chamber is concerned at the failure to solve the problem of prompt transhipment ,of cargo for New Zealand at Sydney. It urges that under existing war conditions goods should be sent with the .utmost expedition and that all cargo space available should be used. "If restriction is still needed, which we doubt, the power of decision should rest with a competent authority at the port of loading, not with Wellington, to save time," the message adds.
