SOLDIERS' HOSPITAL

COMPLETION NEXT WEEK The new emergency hospital in the Auckland Domain, erected primarily for the treatment of wounded soldiers from overseas, is expected to be ready for occupation at the end of next week. The singie-storev portion at the back aihl the top floor of the two-storev building are now being finished and the interior of the lower storey of the main block is receiving attention. With accommodation for .150 beds the building contains the latest features of modern hospital design. The wards are mostly of the four-bed type, with screens between, and open on to commodious balconies. Additional sheltered space for convalescent patients is provided by paved courtyards between the wings. A smooth finish with pale green and cream tints has been given the interior walls and the exterior colours are a blend of fawn and grey plaster. Interior heating will he supplied by steam conveyed from the boiler-house at the Auckland Hospital by a pipeline and the meals for the soldiers will be cooked at the main hospital. Food will be kept hot during meal times in ward kitchens. ) The Auckland Hospital Hoard has not yet decided what use will he made of tlie hospital at the outset and_ no dale has been fixed for its occupation.
