RUNAWAY VAN
STONE WALL SMASHED DROP OF THIRTY FEET WOMAN OCCUPANT INJURED Crashing through a thick stone wall when il became out of control iif Fdwin Street, .Mount Fdeii, about 2.'50 yesterday afternoon, a light van overturned and dropped .'Mitt, into scrub, falling on its roof. The van was driven by .Mr. Marcus Douglas, of !) Tawa Road, Onehunga, who was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Kathleen Douglas, aged .'s9, who received head injuries. When turning out of ('live Koad into Fdwiu Street, a steep incline running alongside the .Mount Fden quarry, the van mounted the loot path and smashed through a protecting wall of r< fk about ]Bin. thick- Making a sheer drop of about .''Oft., the vehicle overturned, tore through scrub and came to rest on rocks in a corner of the quarry property. Workers in the vicinity released the occupants with some difficulty. Mrs. Douglas was taken to the Auckland Hospital and her condition last night was pot serious. Mr. Douglas escaped injury. Damage to the van was not extensive.
