CHEERFUL .AND CONFIDENT MESSAGE FROM BRIGADIER [BY TELEGRAPH —'PRESS ASSOCIATION*] WELLINGTON. Thursday The following message to the people of New Zealand from the Brigadier Commanding the Divisional troops in Egypt lias been received by the Director of Publicity. Mr. J. T. Paul, from the N.Z.E.F. Official News Service in the Middle East: - — "The New Zealand Division returned from the brief campaign in Greece with their heads held high and their honour untarnished." reads the message, which came from Cairo. "Throughout the days of fighting rearguard actions the Division, on every occasion, held its position for the time stipulated, inflicting hard knocks on the enemy.
"Breaking off actions at nightfall when ordered to do so, it completed long and arduous withdrawals under cover of darkness to fresh positions, whence to fight once more. Finally, the men reached the embarkation beaches in orderly disciplined units, retaining all their arms and equipment except heavy glms, which perforce had to be destroyed. Every nuln was carrying, in addition to his arms, some item of valuable equipment. Now they are hard at work, cheerful and confident, preparing for whatever further tasks they may be called upon to undertake."
