102 ND BIRTHDAY

OTAGO PIONEER WOMAN (0.0.) DUXF.DIX, Thursday Looking hale and hearty in spite of the fact that she was still confined to her bed by doctor's orders following a recent illness, .Mrs. Ann Hubbard, of Waimate, celebrated her 102 nd birthday vesterdav. "1 feel quite well," she told her visitors, "and 1 want to get up. but I am only allowed to sit up."

Mrs. Hubbard received many birthday messages and presents. The Mayor and Mayoress, Mr. and Mrs. G. Dash, sent birthday greetings. Mrs. Hubbard is a well-known figure in Waimate, having resided in the same cottage in Princess Street for some 60 years. She left there only four years ago to reside with her daughters, three of whom live in the town. Mrs. Hubbard was born at Foulsham, England, and with her husband, Mr. George Hubbard, and six children, arrived in New Zealand in October, 1874, landing at Tiniaru in surfboats. After some years the family removed to Waimate.' Mr. Hubbard later took up a farm on the boundary ot the town, where he was residing at the time of his death in 1919. Seven members of the family of 12 are living.
