BACONER PIGS
Sir, —The refusal of the .Minister of Marketing to accept baconer pigs for slaughter will be a source of heavy loss to many farmers unless the Government honours its contract with the producers and faces. up to the situation immediately. At this time of year the supply of milk diminishes rapidly, arid as the price of grain for pig feed is prohibitive, baccmer pigs will quickly deteriorate to stores, with little or no value. Is this loss to fall on the producer? Lamb and beef is very unlikely to deteriorate at this time of year, but will gain in weight. It would be better in the interests of national economy to concentrate on the killing of baconers, leaving lamb and beef in the paddock temporarily. The Minister of Finance says that the Government." in the interest of national economy, is determined not to destrov good meat. 1 would say that bv allowing fat pigs (value. 6|d per lb.) to become practically valueless stores, rather than to make fertiliser of boner cows (value about 2Jd per lb.) is destructive to both individual and national economy.
